| | A funny thing happened on the way to the theater...A 17-year public school educator at both the elementary and middle school levels, Jason found his way into the theater by a circuitous route. A single remaining elective credit at Michigan State University resulted in the random picking of an acting 101 course that required an MSU Theater Department audition to pass. He was cast in the 1942 (occupied France) update of Antigone and has built a passion for acting, writing, and theater for young people ever since. While teaching fourth grade at Silver Springs Elementary in Nothville MI, Jason founded and ran the very first elementary school drama club in Northville Public Schools. He wrote over a dozen short skits themed around the Franklyn-Covey character counts program Leader In Me (winning a special recognition award from Franklyn-Covey for the scripts). He wrote three one act plays performed by fourth and fifth graders in the Silver Springs Drama Club (The Tallest Tale, Elementary 101, and Blue, Red, and Gray) before moving onto Hillside Middle School and forming the first drama club there in over a decade.Jason has spent the last four years building the Hillside Drama Club through a series of filmed International Bachelorette skits, a Theater Boot Camp program in partnership with the Northville High School Drama Club, and two one-act plays, A Bully's Ballad (which he is very proud to have published with Heuer!), and the brand-new Middle Decades. | |
