Author's Notes:
This play was written to show young people the awesome power they hold in each and every choice they make. In no way is "aftermath" meant to be didactic and it should never appear preachy or instructional. Trust the text and support it with simple, honest acting work and a no-nonsense interpretation and approach. This allows audiences to come to their own conclusions about the issues raised which is the desired effect. "aftermath" is most effective when staged in a seamless conceptual manner that enables the black boxes to be quickly arranged and re-arranged by the actors in interesting ways to suggest many locales without interrupting the flow of the action. The play should be quickly paced and staged with a youthful energy. Throughout the play, the characters speak of Brody in both past and present tense. Here again, trust the text and do not change characters' lines regarding Brody.
Penned by award-winning playwright, Michael Blevins, and originally produced by New York's Group Theatre Too, aftermath chronicles the lives of seven young people as they face daily choices about substance abuse, promiscuity, diet, other social issues and the inevitable consequences of the choices they make. Follow Brody and his friends in this expertly crafted story of discovery and respect for your body. Knowledge is power – arm your students with the power of positive choices.
