Author's Notes:
You will share a table with a glamorous (and insufferable) Broadway diva, her ambitious yet starry-eyed understudy, a dashing leading man with roving eyes and an overdrawn bank account, a deep pocket producer with ties to the underworld, and let's not forget the man they all love to hate - the cynical, sharp-tongued theatre critic.

Careers, as well as fortunes, will be made and lost tonight. On the surface, it's all charm, anticipation and high spirits. Seething just below the surface are passions, conflicts and ambitions of murderous intensity. Mysterious and bizarre events set the stage for some dazzling final performances.

Test your wits against Anthony Badger, our well-fed detective, a brilliant curmudgeon and bon-vivant, and make this opening night a hit to remember...As an invited guest to Lardi's . . . THE place to see and be seen, you can mingle with the best and brightest of the New York stage, as you await the reviews that will make or break this big money production.

Darling, You Slay Me! contains three show-within-the-show musical numbers and runs about two hours with dinner breaks. It is perfect for small theatre companies, community theatres and semi-professional companies who need small-cast plays. Salad, dinner and dessert breaks are incorporated into the script to ensure an easy transition from story into food service. The breaks can be easily adjusted to accommodate different dining circumstances. Additionally, the show could be produced traditionally without a dinner setting.

The time is 1928, the place is New York City. It is the opening night party at a swank Times Square restaurant for a particularly dreadful new Broadway musical. With each new review comes a mysterious death, and so it falls to Anthony Badger, food critic and amateur sleuth, along with the audience, to sort out the patterns and find the killer.
A smart, affectionate parody of theatrical characters in the best glimpse-backstage tradition. This comic murder-mystery is perfect for small theatre companies who need small-cast plays. Commissioned by The Gourmet Detective (Orange County, CA), it has proved to be an audience favorite.
