Author's Notes:
Yes, Delia Dancer, Doughnut Girl is a radio play. Could you produce it on stage? Most definitely! As ironic as it sounds, I wanted to create a homespun spectacular! Something memorable, nostalgic, and frankly down-right playful, that would invite an audience in on a hilarious evening of raucous and happy entertainment, the familiar old private family joke told in a public forum of animated audience participation, peppy and lively sing-alongs, and enthusiastic howls and moans. I also wanted to give a director enough elbow room to take a small play and turn it into a grand and boisterous, festive evening of live theatre. Pass out paper doughnut hats to the audience, imbed the costumed callers in the rows of theatre seats, serve doughnuts at intermission, add additional friendly sing-along camp songs, and have the entire cast out in the parking lot wishing the patrons a good night and a safe ride on the highways and small roads heading home.

Synopsis
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, gentle listeners of all ages, shapes and sizes, and welcome to tonight’s episode of that hometown, Hagerstown sweetheart, Delia Dancer, Doughnut Girl.

Dainty Delia Dancer, deliverer of doughnuts delightful, deals in danger daily at the hands of her demented, domineering, demonic, and drooling doughnut director, Glen Burnie.

Delia Dancer, Doughnut Girl is a modern melodrama that chronicles a ridiculous day and the challenges and struggles of a young woman who makes a living manufacturing doughnuts and sweet pastries in a small town doughnut factory. Structured as a radio program complete with phony commercials, parody songs, audience participation, and listener call-in spots, Delia Dancer, Doughnut Girl stretches theatrical forms but is deeply rooted in awful puns and wrapped around an apple pie and a cup of coffee of small town life.
