Synopsis
This play follows and expands upon the lyrics and ideas of J.M. Neal’s Christmas Carol, “Good King Wenceslas." During the Christmas feast in the Great Hall of a Bohemian castle in 925 A.D., King Wenceslas does the unthinkable: He invites all the servants and castle staff to break bread with the nobility. There he learns from his page, Aloysius, that although all is grand and wonderful at the castle, not all of his subjects are so well off. He learns that many peasants live in abject poverty, squatting on church controlled lands. A man of action and compassion, King Wenceslas moves the entire feast to the remote cluster of poor huts and shares its bounty. In the end, a warm glow pervades him and his entourage as they give their food and even their remnants to the poor, and the winter night does not seem cold anymore.

The Piano Score includes five original songs, “Feast,” “Aloysius,” “St. Nicholas,” “Saints,” and the heartfelt “The Kindness of Strangers.”
