By Amy Ballard - Drama Class Teacher - Camas County High School
Part of Alex had too many lines, many other parts had nearly nothing to do. There was far too much written in the stage directions. It made it hard for actors to follow when learning their parts. It needs to be pared way down. The plot was confusing, even when you know what's going on. The only parts I considered truly funny were the two little old ladies-FBI agents. It was easy to stage in that there weren't a lot of sets to change, but over all, I thought it needed editing. The words very and quite can be deleted and the sentence will be better.
Mandy, Elinor, and Sara are three very stage-struck high school juniors who will do almost anything to get themselves cast in a play, any play! Answering an audition notice for “Three college age actresses with dinner theatre experience for a murder-mystery weekend at Coppersmith Inn,” the girls apply wigs and tons of makeup, adopt exotic “stage” names, and draft three impressive theatrical bios. Unfortunately, they might look the part, but they don't act the part. In one word, they're “lousy!” But Coppersmith Inn is in difficult financial straits so with opening night less than two days away and still three roles in the murder-mystery to be filled, the Coppersmith Inn's harried director mindlessly overlooks the fact Mandy, Elinor, and Sara (Desiree, Barton, and Franchot) can't act and casts them in three major roles—one of which is a male role. What happens next can only be described as a hilarious theatrical travesty: cues are missed; lines are delivered at the wrong times to the wrong characters; sound effects cover up the actors' dialogue; it rains at the wrong time on the wrong people; wrong entrances and too early exits plague the play; and as everything else is going wrong, the wrong person is murdered! One interior set.
