Customer Comments:
By Matthew E. Scharf - Director/Producer - Pfafftown Players
I wholeheartedly concur with all of Mr. Woodruff's comments. This is a very funny play and one that derives much of its humor from realism. A play that was as much fun to rehearse, as it was to perform. This delightful farce allowed each actor to accentuate his own character's over-the-top quirks, which had us all laughing.

What a great feeling to see the cast enjoy themselves on stage and then watch as their energy transcended to the audience, resulting in a memorable show. It was such a hit that the audience found themselves quoting lines from the play for days after the performance.

By Peter Woodruff - Board Member - Plum River Playhouse
Plum River Playhouse presented Town Council during their 2008 season. In this hilarious political farce, the bigger-than-life characters, a mousey town clerk, an overbearing mayor, an uptight council president, an aging hippie, and an officious tightwad, gives the audience hilarious insight as to why governing bodies accomplish so little so much of the time. The snappy dialogue and fast pace leave audiences clutching their sides with laughter. Much of the humor in this delightful one-act derives from realism. Many have experienced the conflict and bickering that occur when strong personalities and opposing ideas clash. You're going to love it!

Synopsis
The town council for the small town of Town, U.S.A. has been called together for a special meeting on Fat Tuesday, the last Tuesday before Lent. Problems begin when Summer Love, an aging hippie, wants it acknowledged in the meeting’s minutes that today is indeed Fat Tuesday and the meeting should have been rescheduled because she is going to miss her Mardi Gras party. Council President I.B. Wishywashy and Mayor Seymour Killens, an ex-military man, try to keep the meeting on track so they can tend to the reason for the special meeting, which is the condemnation of the home of one hundred year-old, Emma Starvin. The council skinflint, Titus Canby, is pushing for condemnation of her home so the town’s wealthiest citizen, Richard Greenback, can build condos on the property. The over-the-top eccentricities of the council members and the town staff make for a high spirited political spoof.
