Customer Comments:
By Jack Helbig - Chicago Reader
Colette Freedman’s dark comedy may be based on a familiar premise—estranged family members are reunited by the death of a parent—but her agility with dialogue and gift for creating interesting characters make it extraordinary, particularly a powerful flashback in the second half of evening that pulls it all together.

By Kerry Reid - Chicago Tribune
Well honed Morbant Wit.

By Jade Kops - Broadway World Sydney
Freedman's text is witty in its quips and observations and the ensemble rise to the challenge of creating a realistic dialogue and expression of a tense family gathering with fabulous pace and comic timing. is a blend of humour, heart, challenging ethical dilemmas and messed up family dynamics. Brilliantly presented and deserving of much bigger audiences given its content and execution, go and see this fabulous play.

- Aussie Theatre.com
"Sister Cities", directed here by Roz Riley, is a black comedy: the perfect vehicle to showcase the darkness and inescapable comedy of reuniting a dysfunctional family in a time of high stress. Like The Breakfast Club, a film the play explicitly references, each character is given a moment of revelation and catharsis; long held secrets and troubled emotions are finally brought to the surface.

By Louise Ridley - THREE WEEKS
The all-female cast was superb all round, with slick and dynamic performances of a script that was packed with unexpected twists and turns. Absorbing from start to finish, this was funny, touching and ultimately a warm affirmation of family despite dysfunction.

By Peter Lathan - BRITISH THEATRE GUIDE
Well written with nicely observed characters. The actresses capture these relationships beautifully - the edginess, the sibling rivalry, the underlying love.

By Steve Cramer - THE EDINBURGH STAGE
Colette Freedman's black comedy contrives to constantly amuse with crisp, observant dialogue and nicely tempered performances. It's as much West End fare as Fringe, this is a smart and accomplished piece of drama, well performed by its cast.

By Ben Lee - ONE4REVIEW
Five Stars. A beautifully constructed work with real insight and humour. Wonderfully acted, this is a play that should cause us to reflect on some of the values of Western society.

- STAGE EDINBURGH
Intriguing and witty play featuring elements of both Chekhov and sitcom.

By Barry Gordon - EDINBUGH EVENING NEWS
A charming and demoralizing tale of sibling rivalry, "Sister Cities" will have you hanging on every word until the final curtain. Gascoine excels amid strong cast.

By Anna Miller - THE SCOTSMAN
Touching and often funny story of sibling rivalries. The four sisters give heartfelt, warm performances.

By Kerry Smith - SAN JOSE MET
Sister Cities is a mash of realism, great comedic moments, family coming together and dark subjects. The playwright, Colette Freedman, has created a masterpiece that appeals to a young, modern audience as well as any age. Don’t miss this wonderful multi-layered and side- splittingly funny play.

By Ande Jacobson - A GOOD REED REVIEW
"Sister Cities” is a powerful play worth seeing and is guaranteed to draw powerful emotional responses from the audience.

By Susanna Greenwood - SAN JOSE STAGE
Heartbreaking and hilarious. I can’t actually recall any play I’ve ever read whose mere text has move me thusly.

By Jeanie K. Smith - PALO ALTO WEEKLY
"Sister Cities" is clever and captivating. An intriguing and funny script abundant humor in the witty dialogue and the well-drawn characters Freedman has a knack for spot- on one-liners.

By Elana McKernan - THEATRE BAY AREA
*EDITOR’S PICK "A dark, moving and hilarious exploration of the nature of family and the ties that bind."

By RON LEVITT - South Florida International Press Club
One of TWTP's finest productions thanks to... a script that is filled with memorable moments.

By MARY DAMIANO - Sun Sentinel
It's to Freedman's credit that she mines laughs and levity (allowing) the audience to find humor amid unspeakable tragedy. “Sister Cities” is a poignant and funny look at the dysfunction that feeds family relationships.

By CHRISTINE DOLEN - Miami Herald
"Sister Cities" communicates enough about the passions, pleasures and sorrows of a selfish, dying woman to break your heart.

By DINK O’NEAL - Backstage West
Playwright Colette Freedman's smart, sassy script spins theatrical gold. To playwright freedman's credit, each of her characters, named for the location of their births, offers a distinctly crafted glimpse into the human condition. And the actresses portraying them are marvelous as they employ freedman's witty, rapid-fire dialogue.

By Jennifer Rathborne - Theatreonline
Sister Cities, a serio-comic drama, beautifully illustrates through Freedman’s witty rhetoric, the joys and pitfalls of sisterhood and how a mother’s death can bring a family together.

By Ilena George - New Theatre Corps
The play is beautiful and devastating.

By Martin Denton - nytheatre.com
Wise, warm, and full of heart and humor, Sister Cities by Colette Freedman is one of the best new plays of the season.

Synopsis
The internationally-acclaimed play by Colette Freedman that was both a critical and commercial smash in the United States and Europe, Sister Cities tells the story of four estranged sisters who reunite for their mother’s alleged suicide. Artistic, self-indulgent matriarch Mary, has married four different men and named her daughters after the location of their births.
