Art and Practice, Third Edition
This thoroughly revised and updated edition is for the advanced student of lighting design and technology. It goes beyond techniques for creating light plots and focuses on the art of lighting design. Emphasis is given to the designer's thought processes and the collaborative nature of theatrical design, especially the designer-director relationship. Other advanced topics covered include: optics, history of control systems, the nature of light, color theory, electricity, power distribution systems, automated luminaries, electronic dimmers, scenic projections, and lasers. Safety is stressed throughout.
Willard F. Bellman is Professor Emeritus, California State University, Northridge. He is a long-time active member of United States Institute for Theatre Technology which recognized his outstanding and continuing service to the Institute by giving him the prestigious USITT Founders Award in 1990. He is a Fellow of the Institute and one of only seven Honorary Lifetime Members.
